LET'S TALK:
PICKUP WIRES

This is one of the most important things to learn when dealing with wiring, because depending on how the pickup is wired internally allows you to play with how it fundamentally works

HUMBUCKER DESCRIPTION:

Humbuckers are the second gen tech in the instrument world and were designed to fix the noise problems of the single coil. The two coils basically act as a buffer, cutting out the feedback by sending the signal through 2 polarity fields.

BRAIDED WIRE

the most common and mislabeled pickup wire. You can commonly find these labelled as a 2 conductor. But this single conductor features a cloth "hot" and braided "ground"

INTERNALLY

the Screw coil’s start wire (red) is connected to the cloth wire. The screw and slug coil's finish wires (Black) are soldered together. With the slug coils start wire (red) and braided wire soldered to the baseplate. This style does all the hard work for you. With this set up the ground is pre-done and all you have to do is solder it to a pot casing.

SINGLE CONDUCTOR

identical to the braided wire style but instead uses cheaper pvc wire with a single wire acting as a hot & a bare as a ground

INTERNALLY

the Screw coil’s start wire (red) is connected to the white pvc wire. The screw and slug coil's finish wires (Black) are soldered together. With the slug coils start wire (red) and bare wire soldered to the baseplate. This style does all the hard work for you. With this set up the ground is pre-done and all you have to do is solder it to a pot casing.

2 CONDUCTOR

This setup is semi-common and allows the user to do basic mods. It features 2 pvc coated wires, and a bare wire.

INTERNALLY

The way this pickup wire works is by pre-doing the series link for you. So the screw coil’s start wire (RED) is connected to one wire. For this example we say the white wire. the Screw and slug coil finish’s (Black) are soldered together. The Slug coils start is then soldered to the black wire, and the bare is soldered to the baseplate. So in this set up you the consumer has to finish the ground. You do this by soldering the black and bare wire to a pot casing.

4 CONDUCTOR

this is a must for anyone who wants to do whatever mod they want. This style features 4 wires and a bare.

INTERNALLY

In this setup the start and finish of each coil has a wire. With the bare wire being attached to the baseplate. Allowing you the user to wire it however you want.
